Phil Mickelson’s LIV Golf Goal: Winning as an Individual and a Team

Phil Mickelson’s journey in LIV Golf has been anything but easy, but the six-time major champion remains focused on achieving his ultimate goal—winning an event. Following his best-ever finish in the breakaway league, a third-place result at LIV Golf Hong Kong, Mickelson made it clear that victory is still on his mind.

“I would love nothing more—one of my goals is to win a LIV event,” Mickelson said ahead of Sunday’s final round. His performance in Hong Kong was his best in 37 LIV events, marking his first podium finish since joining in February 2023. Despite not winning an “Under-50s” tournament for nearly four years, Mickelson remains confident in his ability to compete at the highest level.

However, individual success isn’t his only target. Mickelson emphasized the importance of winning as a team—something he has rarely experienced in his career outside of the Ryder Cup. “We’ve not won as a team. I’ve not ever won as a team in professional golf outside of the Ryder Cup, and even that was very few times,” he admitted. “That would be special for us, especially the way we’ve worked hard together to come back from a rough year.”

Although he ultimately fell short of victory, finishing four shots behind winner Sergio Garcia, Mickelson took positives from his performance. His third-place finish was not only his best LIV result but also his strongest worldwide showing since the 2023 Masters, where he tied for second.

With renewed confidence and momentum, Mickelson remains determined to break through and add a LIV Golf title to his legendary career.
