Veteran golf star Phil Mickelson delivered his strongest LIV Golf performance to date at Hong Kong Golf Club, securing a solo third-place finish after an impressive run of 67-65-64. With the 2025 Masters just weeks away, the six-time major champion is brimming with confidence, crediting his resurgence to a dedicated offseason grind and a fresh approach to his game.
Mickelson’s Revival on the Course
Mickelson, 54, has faced challenges in LIV Golf since joining, finishing 46th in last year’s standings with only one top-10 finish. However, the classic, tight fairways of Hong Kong Golf Club—normally not suited to his aggressive style—proved to be the perfect setting for his breakthrough.
“I really had a great offseason, figured some things out, and I’m playing a different style of golf,” Mickelson said. “My game is getting sharp. My short game is back, my iron play is solid, and I’m playing with a lot less stress. It feels easy.”
With Augusta National on the horizon, Mickelson is setting his sights on another major victory. His track record at the Masters speaks for itself—three green jackets and a runner-up finish as recently as 2023.
“My goal is to win on LIV and get another major. Augusta is a place where I know I can contend,” Mickelson emphasized.
Sergio Garcia Steals the Spotlight
While Mickelson had a career-best LIV event, it was Sergio Garcia who claimed victory with a stunning final-round 63. The former Masters champion now has his eyes set on a potential Ryder Cup return, hoping his recent success will earn him a captain’s pick for the 2025 European team at Bethpage Black.
Garcia acknowledged that European captain Luke Donald is keeping an eye on his performance, adding:
“The only thing I can do is keep playing well and proving I can help the team.”
What’s Next?
The LIV Golf League heads to Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore next, followed by its U.S. debut for 2025 at Trump Doral in Miami. Meanwhile, Mickelson and Garcia will continue fine-tuning their games as the Masters and Ryder Cup race intensifies.
