PGA Tour star Sam Burns recently opened up about a surprising round of golf with former President Donald Trump. Burns, a six-time PGA Tour winner and close friend of Scottie Scheffler, revealed that Trump’s candid nature during their game took him by surprise.
Burns and Trump played a round together before Trump’s return to the White House. Afterward, Burns joined Trump and Elon Musk for dinner at Mar-a-Lago, where the conversation continued in an open and relaxed atmosphere.
When asked about the experience on the GOLF Subpar podcast, Burns admitted he was impressed by Trump’s openness. “He’s exactly how you’d expect him to be — straightforward and honest,” Burns said. “You can ask him pretty much anything, and he’ll give you a direct answer.”
Trump’s love for golf was also evident, with Burns adding, “He has some really funny stories. I wasn’t sure if he’d answer some of my questions, but he did.”

Security was tight during the round, with Burns noting the presence of numerous Secret Service agents and even snipers positioned around the course. “At any given hole, there were close to 20 carts nearby. If you were paying attention, you could spot the security detail everywhere,” Burns explained.
Burns, known for his competitive spirit with Scheffler, acknowledged that despite their friendship, they both want to win whenever they face off. After beating Scheffler in a playoff at the Charles Schwab Challenge in 2022, Burns said, “We’re probably best friends, but we both want to beat each other more than anyone else.”
Burns’ insight into his round with Trump offers a rare glimpse into the former President’s personality, revealing a mix of humor, directness, and a genuine passion for the game.
