Scottie Scheffler made history on Sunday, earning his first win of the 2025 season in emphatic fashion at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson held at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas.

The World No. 1 delivered a record-tying performance, finishing with a 72-hole total of 253, matching the lowest score in PGA Tour history. That mark was previously set by Justin Thomas at the 2017 Sony Open and Ludvig Åberg at the 2023 RSM Classic. Scheffler also shattered the tournament scoring record of 259 set by Steven Bowditch in 2015.

His final-round 63 brought him to 31-under par, giving him an eight-shot margin over runner-up Erik van Rooyen. Despite a late bogey on the par-3 17th, Scheffler remained unchallenged throughout the final round.

🗣️ Scheffler Reflects on a Special Home Win

The 28-year-old Texas resident described the win as “very special,” especially considering his deep personal connection to the event. Scheffler grew up attending the Byron Nelson tournament and made his PGA Tour debut there as a teenager. He even slept in his own bed throughout the week, with the course just minutes from home.

“This is a course where you can go low, so I knew I couldn’t just coast,” Scheffler explained after the round. “Even with a lead, I had to stay aggressive and keep the pressure on.”

Although his flawless week nearly resulted in a solo scoring record, Scheffler took the finish in stride, noting that the bigger reward was winning in front of family and friends.

👨‍👩‍👦 A Victory Close to the Heart

With his wife and young son Bennett present, Scheffler held his son during the trophy ceremony, visibly emotional. He credited his family for their unwavering support and reflected on the memories he had growing up watching the tournament, including his sister, who once caddied for him and was present on Sunday.

“This place means the world to me,” Scheffler said. “It’s where I got my start. Now, I’m winning it, with my wife and child by my side. It’s surreal.”

📈 PGA Tour History Made

This win marks Scheffler’s 14th career PGA Tour title, and his first since becoming a father. In previous seasons, he had racked up double-digit wins by early May. This year, the wait may have been longer, but the result was historic.

The CJ Cup Byron Nelson was a reminder not just of Scheffler’s talent, but of his journey—from a young fan with a dream to the top-ranked player in the world.
